At St. Paul’s we believe that children are interested and capable of experiencing God through worship. For this reason we aim to provide meaningful worship experiences for a variety of ages. Through these programs we help children learn how to encounter God through worship and teach them about the elements of traditional Christian worship.
Children’s Sermon
On the second and fourth Sunday of every month, Peggy McRight delivers a Children’s Sermon within the 10:55 worship service. Children are invited down front for a special lesson and prayer.
Children Worship & Wonder
During the 10:55 a.m. morning worship at St. Paul’s, children ages 3 through 2nd grade are invited to exit the sanctuary after the “Gloria Patri” (or following the children’s sermon on specified Sundays) and continue worship in the Children’s Worship Center located on the main floor of the Brown Building (see map on back). Following the Gloria Patri, the greeter (adult leader) carries the Children Worship & Wonder banner out of the sanctuary signaling the children to follow quietly to their own special worship where they learn about God as they experience God and respond to Bible Stories through a Montessori approach to worship.
Children and Communion
As a church of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we celebrate the Lord’s Supper each and every Sunday. We believe that it is the Lord’s Table, open to all who believe in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. Such belief requires a certain level of spiritual maturity; therefore, each family is encouraged to make decisions regarding their child/children’s participation in the communion feast. It is the responsibility of each parent to insure that their family’s wishes are carried out. Our Diaconate will serve all worshipers; therefore if you wish for you child to refrain from taking communion, please talk over this issue with your child and guide him or her through this time in our service.
Children and Baptism
As preparation for baptism, children are invited to participate in the Pastor’s Class, a special elective Sunday School Class usually held for five weeks in the Spring. This class teaches children the basics about the Scriptures, the Church, and the significance of baptism. Those wishing to participate are encouraged to contact Rev. Phil Jones through the church office.
