The St. Paul’s Restaurant at the NC State Fair will operate October 15-25, 2009. It will open for lunch and dinner only, Thursday, October 15 but for all three meals, e.g. breakfast, lunch and dinner October 16 – 25, 2009. Volunteers from St. Paul’s and other area Disciple churches work together to prepare, serve, and bus tables along Restaurant Row just northeast of Dorton Arena on the State Fair site.
There is no better way to get to know one another better than working together serving others at the Fair. Volunteers are requested to sign up for one of the three shifts on the schedule board located at St. Paul’s or by calling the church office at (919) 787-1278.
St. Paul’s involvement at the State Fair grew from its early history as a congregation when women of the church made and sold ham biscuits out of their homes to support basic church finances. The cooking was so good and the support so loyal that the operations grew and in 1962 the church opened its own Fair Booth Restaurant.
For over 45 years, St. Paul’s and friends have continued to offer a resting place and “good eatin’” for Fair folks. Our restaurant is known for its homemade hot and fluffy ham-biscuits, its “made to order” breakfast plates, home-style vegetables, chicken and pork bar-b-que, and scrumptuous desserts. Our low prices also make the St. Paul’s State Fair Restaurant one of the best bargains at this annual event that last year attracted nearly 100,000 people over a ten-day period.
Over the years proceeds from the Fair have been used to support capital improvements, local outreach projects and other worthwhile efforts to further God’s Kingdom here on earth.
