Yam Jam - Held First Week End in October

Yam Jam is a project of the NC CMF. Fields are gleaned for the hungry in our community.

After meeting at First Christian Church Rocky Mount for coffee and donuts, about 50 gleaners headed out for the sweet potato fields in a caravan of pickup trucks and vans. Youth from CYF joined forces with CMF to help glean the fields.

The yams were provided to shelters that provide hot meals to the less fortunate, homeless, and hungry. This year men delivered yams to shelters in the Coastal Plains, Mill Creek, and Central districts. Each year the harvest increases and this year was no exception. The delivery area has also dramatically expanded as more CMFs have joined the project. Among the churches represented were: FCC Rocky Mount, FCC Macclesfield, Wilbanks CC, St. Pauls CC, Hillyer CC, Shalom Community CC, FCC Williamston, FCC Greenville, Winterville CC, and FCC Smithfield.

Yam Jam Chairman Milton Fields of First Christian Church Rocky Mount organizes the event and locates farmers who agree to participate in the project. If you would like more information on the project contact FCC Rocky Mount (919) 446-4943.

We are looking forward to next year's Yam Jam. Make plans now for your men's group to participate.

Service Project
Camp Caroline Sea Wall

Erosion of the shore line at Camp Caroline had become a significant problem due to increased boat traffic and their accompanying wakes.
In 1998, CMF in NC adopted a project to build a sea wall to protect 360 feet of water front. Originally planned as a 2 year project, CMFs raised its $24,000 cost in 1 year.
Construction was completed in time for the 1999 camping season. The wall was dedicated during CMF Spring Reterat at Camp Caroline.
