Disciples of Christ

Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

St. Paul’s Christian Church is part of a larger body of cooperative ministry called the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Representatives and members of the approximately 3800 Disciples congregations from across North American and the world gather every two years to meet as a General Assembly.

The vision of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is: “To be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality, and a passion for justice (Micah 6:8).” Our mission is: “to be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ witnessing, loving, and serving from our doorsteps to ‘the ends of the earth’(Acts 1:8)”

The ministry of St. Paul’s is also supported through the regional church, known as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in North Carolina, with offices in Wilson, NC. Our Regional Minister is the Rev. Dr. John Richardson who serves as pastor to our pastors. While each congregation calls its ministers, the Region aids the search process. In addition, the Region provides care, training, and other resources to assist minister serving local congregations and other engaged in ministry within the Region. The training and ordination process for those trainting for ministry is also handled at the regional level. The Region helps to organize and carry out a Regional Assembly every two years (when the General Assembly is not meeting). The Region also owns and operates Camp Caroline, our retreat and conference center near Oriental, NC.
